Self-Discovery

I realised that I relished every piece of inspirational stories or quotes that I can get a hold of. Of late, I have been watching a few TEDTalks videos that talks about a few issues that speaks to my heart. So, I'm going to share this one today:

Have a great, beautifully sunny Saturday everyone!

I Wish I Can Spend My Days Reading Inspirational Stuff.

There's a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark.

- Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" -

Like from where i got the following sentences from:

"So what's the solution? The solution is to focus on the things you do want. The solution is to remember who you are in every moment. The solution is to remember your purpose, remember your calling, remember the Love within you and make choices from that place. The solution is not to believe that circumstances define you or that you are a victim. You keep yourself trapped with that kind of thinking."

And to ponder the logic behind the following:

"Cynical, you say? Well, my father had an insider’s view of how government and politics work in this country. This was also the man who told me, upon my graduation, not to work in the civil service “because your brain will rot.”"

Aah, perhaps my brain is rotting.

I am certainly disturbed (pissed, more like) at this girl's statement, but her column serves as a platform for her personal opinion. So does this blog for me.

I would love to defend the civil service. The people who deserves to be defended, that is. And the service itself; for all of our post-independence days, something good must have come out of it, seeing that most of my peers have never had to beg by on the streets, go to school shoeless or witness a loved one murdered without mercy.

(Ok, maybe that's going way too far)

Then again, "“Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes.”

I am sorry, though, that her dad only met the ones with rotting brains. Perhaps, he doesn't meet people that much. Then again, throwing around comments like that prolly endears him to like-minded people. Law of Attraction, and all.

So, I shall refrain (but terlepas sikit sudah). I am sure this writer's occupation of "dabbling in the performing arts" contributes as a personal service to the masses, just like Hindi movies serves as a 3-hour fantasy ride away from the realities of the hard-core poverty faced by the various communities/ castes in India.

I love the following quote though, and to me, it sums up why, whenever I'm faced with doubts about what I do on a daily basis, I still wake up, put on a nice baju kurung, and drive off to the office:

“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes & dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than to be selfish and worry about my liver.' ”

That wasn't me, btw. I would love to see this girl in action on stage though, hmm.
