Reality shows
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

i think UK have taken reality shows up like 500 notches with the new series "Cosmetic Surgery Live" ..and yes, they are live..as in, u see real life breast augmentation happening, blood and all, buttocks inflation, botox injection, lip plumping, and the latest that i saw, calves implants..yup, calves have their own silicone implants now, long jelly like pieces to give your calves definition..were told that body builders and generally, men go for it...
i have not watched a whole show yet, even though it goes on every night..yes, every night at about 11 pm, you get to watch a bunch of surgeons in different rooms, plunging surgical instruments into their latest patients' bodies...as i have problems with watching NipTuck's bloody scenes, u can imagine my horror whenever i switch channels to Channel 5 malam2...maybe one of these days i'd bring myself to watch a full episode, so i can give a proper review...until then, i gotta get myself a strong tummy first...
on the other hand, Britain is getting their people to move..with reality-type shows like Big Nation, and dulu, Fit Farm...these shows stemmed from the recent report (in May, i think) that the next country with the highest rate of obesity after the US (highest rate there), is the UK..so, BBC came up with this show and a website to get people to eat healthily, exercise more frequently, and generally be healthy...
the thing is, it is easy to gain weight in the UK..trust me, i can't blame homesickness la, the food is good and CHEAP (if ur not dining out la), and the clothes come in big sizes and in the trendiest line..it's sooo easy to live here with my not-so-tiny-at-all body...
anyhoo, what they've come up with is this 10,000 steps a day programme..what you do is, you strap on a pedometer and it records how many steps u take..by the end of the day, u have to hit the 10,000 mark to ensure that you've move enough..basically, its a way to get Brits of their couches and soaps, and start moving...you can get one from BBC Uk and ITV for about GBP 3.99, and once, u can even get it by buying Kelloggs Special K cereal...
so, Big Nation is a reality type show that focuses on neighbours from a street in Birmingham..they're regular people, but many are overweight..one of the reasons was, food is within easy reach..less than 5 minutes away from the street they lived, there are lotsa takeways (chinese and indian), fish and chip shops, kebabs and others..so, what they do is motivate the whole street (and the whole of UK) to start taking the weight off...
its quite interesting actually..go to the website (www.bbc.co.uk/bigchallenge) and you get lotsa tips, like how to exercise while watching telly, and how skipping ropes are good for you, etc..and on the show, they have a dietician, fitness instructor and psychologist who zooms in on certain ppl that really need help...but i think the whole thing is great, cuz it shows that there are lotsa people out there battling this weight problem, and if you're shy about it, you're not the only one..they even suggest you get a friend or neighbour on the program so you'd have company and motivate each other..
i think kat malaysia they should create such programmes..it brings kesedaran, and it is healthy..it does not focus on oh-how great you'll look, but it focuses on the healthy benefits..most of them having the major problems are married or middle aged ones, some on their way to certain diseases and sickness, therefore no anorexic cases here...and it deals with your self-esteem, and emotions..plus, it wouldn't hurt to get dietary and fitness tips kan?
i think i'm gonna get myself one of those pedometers la..
