Self-Indulgences..
Let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
- Al Green's " Let's Stay Together" -
It's that time of the year again for..self-pitying indulgences...
*mournful sigh*
Things i really really/am beginning to, MISS:
1. Dinner/karaoke/gossip sessions with my buddies : i think what i miss most is actually the MEMORIES from previous sessions...cuz i think, when i get back, although things will pretty much remain the same ie.whining about job/salary/life..somehow, on another level, things will start to change...besides, i'm gonna hit the big 25 in less than 6 months, and that's also something to think about..hmmm...
2. Walking through KLCC after office hours..
3. Dinners with the family ANYWHERE....anywhere at all....: its nice to know that this is one thing that have not changed with this family, athough AF2 prolly cuts dinner time to half :p
4. Excursions with cousins to movies, shopping trips, Chicken Hertz, Sunway Lagoon, or just hanging out...
5. Planning reunion sessions with Standard 6 classmates : Gah! but they managed to organise TWO sessions this year! which includes ppl i have not seen for a while...i need to brush up my reunion-organizing skills balik laa..
6. Errands with me mums: Plants trips to Sungei Buluh, Sunday weekly errands to Pasar Tani and Giant, walking/jogging aka keeping up with her around the tasiks in Shah Alam, going ooh-aah over fake flowers, tudungs and textiles, checking out furnitures in Melaka and the same poor old furniture shop in Taman Megah that we go to ALL the time and manage to NOT buy a single thing...
7. Bugging my brother...although i can do it from here, its not the same...
8. Hanging with my sis : She's growing up..pretty soon, she won't wanna do outings with me anymore...cept for the times when i would wave my credit card under her nose...then again, i am currently unemployed, so would be very very broke when i get back...
9. 2 words and a number : Akademi Fantasia 2
10. Halal Italian Food...and all those funny-funny food that i should've tried back home where everything's pretty much halal....mostly, Friday Night dinners with the Nonz...
11. A Pizza Hut, a Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut : anyone remembers this song from those Girl Guides days? sing it with me baybeh..ooh, and a juicy Mushroom Swiss Cheese Burger from Burger KIng..Got the Urge?
12. Any excuses to don a baju kurung/kebaya and tons of makeup, with heels and tiny bags..hahahah..*bimbo moment* ..i know lotsa my friends are pretty much up to their necks in weddings, and i would be too if i were in their shoes, but i've missed many important moments too....
13. Tosai. Nuff said.
14. My grandma, and arwah Atuk's grave..
15. Eileens mood swings, Afti's "perasan macho" moments, Elizabeth's *sometimes* super springy attitude..aimless car trips, night coffees and cheesecakes, sleepovers, and " do you think i should break up??" hahaha....*sigh*...and no Afti, this list is not in a most-favourite order, let that be a disclaimer for you... ;)
16. Trying on shoes without checking if they are made of pigskin...
17. Driving. Anywhere. Anytime. Best times: Sunday afternoons on Federal Highway, Sunday mornings in Shah Alam (well, pretty much anytime in Shah Alam), afternoons in Subang, late, late nights in KL...
18. Checking out gorgeous , big mansions and bitching about them at the same time..haha!
19. A stable, paying JOB...
20.....that undefinable...something.....
self-indulgences brought to you by a geeky bimbo..how twisted can u get? oh yeah, not to mention SAD aka LOSER cuz said bimbo/writer is compiling pictures of a certain musician to create a collage for her wallpaper...
p/s: Nonz, if u get to this part..the other day, i thought about the time when we chased a certain Black Honda (hahahahha!) ..how did we get to his house for Raya eh? how did THAT happened? i miss that AREA...

But you said you want to lose weight!
I will never know
cause you will never show
come on and love me now
come on and love me now
- Cardigan's "Carnival" -
Earlier on there was this show on BBC called The Stress Test, i think...its basically about de-stressing, and there's 2 old fogeys who are experts on stress management, evaluating this head chef from a London restaurant who's very, very stressed, but prolly does not know that he is...we see shots of him in his kitchen, working his tail off, rushing between the metal cabinets, shouting orders, cursing when something goes wrong, and basically being very, very snappish to his staff...he's also a perfectionist, and would insist on okay-ing each and every dish that his staff prepares...the reason: he claimed that the food that comes out of his kitchen is a reflection of him..
a typical day would start with him waking up at 6.30 am, leaving house by 7.30 am..finishing up late, only to have about 1/2 hour at home with his partner, before going off to bed..and the cycle starts all over again the next day...and on Sundays, the one day that he's supposed to be resting, he spent it with catching up on other responsibilities ie, thinking up new dishes, writing up articles for newspapers..and cleaning the house..
anyhoo, the reason he keeps up his lifestyle is that he claims that his job is his passion, and all the rushing around is almost like an orgasm...err, yeah..ok, innuendos aside..how many of us can claim that our job gives us a kind of rush? and by us, i mean, 24-25 year old uni graduates on their first job, scraping out, making ends to pay monthly car installment, pay rent, live the luxurious life we dreamed of when we're in those final years of uni, not to mention save up for marriage/holiday/haj/babies (circle the one most appropriate)...so far, mostly i've heard 3 words: depression, pressure/stress and tension...and the single mantra that seems to apply to everyone: this is not what i want to do!!
well, maybe not that many, after all..but truthfully, only 2 out of 10 friends are truly, truly happy about their job..i admit, i was not one of the 2...i whined, and complained for about a whole year..then took off to UK...*scaredy cat* i wonder if i'll be able to secure a job that would have me smiling when i wake up, singing as i drive through the horrific jam in kl, and still have that same smile pasted on my face as i took off my shoes after a long hard day? i'm tempted to keep that hope in my head, but i think i'll settle for practicality, and hope that my next job would be sufficient to pay related bills, put aside some savings, and take care of my parents should it come to that...
this is soo helping me make up my mind about staying on to try my luck here....
on a note that's more related to the title given above, yesterday i attempted to make Banoffee Pie..if you buy a can of Carnation Condensed Milk, the recipe should be on the back..anyhoo, i was smitten by this desert when Amanda, Coura's housemate prepared it for her birthday..yesterday, i googled the recipe, and found out that the actual recipe called for boiling the CAN of condensed milk (the full can, not an empty one) in water for 3-5 hours..this is the part where i went, whaaa....?? but since the recipe at the back of the condensed milk can requires that i pour out the milk and stir it with butter and sugar ( and the fact that its clearly stated at the bottom "Do not boil unopened can. Bursting may occur ")..i did that..stirring, and stirring till the mixture turned golden/brown, and of caramel-like consistency...
so, the base was digestive biscuits, then bananas topped with the toffee, and finally cream on top..and chill for about 1.5 hours...and we had 2 guests yesterday, Ita and Kak Siti, so they were my victims *muahahah*...result: it was okaayy..unfortunately, when u chill caramel, it kinda hardens...so, what i have is tougher-than-Trebor toffee in between my pie...and it took ages chewing it and swallowing it down...hehehhehe....*whoops*
aptly, i mentioned " kalo orang pakai gigi palsu makan nie, mesti tercabut gigi die..."
what irony *winks*

The Battle against the W.E.I.G.H.T.
How do you numb your skin,
after the warmest touch,
how do you slow your blood,
after the body rush,
how do you free your soul
after you've found a friend
how do you teach your heart
it's a crime to fall in love again...
- Jann Arden's "Insenstive" -
i just realised that i'm not able to copy and paste anything on my blog anymore...arrgh! now, i ACTUALLY have to type out the lyrics that i want to post...that just sucks, man...i wonder if i actually have the patience to type everything out...how do these people existed before the invention of the copy and paste buttons??!! necessity is the mother of invention then...altho', in Blogger's sense, it was necessary to NOT exclude copying and pasting..now we actually have to think up of something to write, instead of copying and pasting...
and i found such nice things to posts today....
today marks the 4th day of fasting for me..yups, i may be hungry, and moody, but i'm determined to lose the 4 kgs i've gained ever since i came back from Spain...not only have i realised that being slightly slimmer than current requires patience, self-restraint and discipline, i have also realised that its so much easier for me to starve than to expect myself to put on my running shoes, or swimming goggles...
yes, the shoe remains jogged-less and the goggles are collecting dust after that one session, but i am not a motivated sports enthusiast...as in, i don't jog around my neighourhood whenever i think my face is rounder than usual, and i don't play sports at all...well, when i was much younger i played the badminton and tennis, but that was waaaay back...i think i am more into group-oriented activities, something where someone can scream "CEPATTTTTT!!!!!!!!" into my ears, cuz that's the only way to get me to move my lazy arse...a much quieter but equally bouncy alternative, would be aerobics with a bunch of 40-50 year old ladies...
when i was in uni, i was determined to lose weight..to this day, i can never pinpoint who, why or what made me got started on dieting...but that's what i did...i cut portions to all my meals, i tried skipping chickens and had fish instead, i only had soupy noodles for dinner...at first, it was not easy, especially being surrounded by people who are not really concerned about their weight as they were flawless, or else do not care much about it...i think one turning point was when i missed lunch due to an Insurance lecture, that i realised, hey, this isn't quite so bad..it's just angin!
then again, there's also the help of a bowel-movement-inducing tea which i consumed religiously for almost a year after that...which lead to many sleepless nights in the first few months, but i gradually learnt how to sleepwalk my way to the loo at godly hours, without waking the whole house up...but man, the first time, i was basically awake, in a foetal position on my bed for a long time...and that was after drinking half of the required portion....
i managed to lose only 5 kgs, but it seemed as if i lost a lot...i could fit into clothes, and i could actually feel myself thinner than before...it was such an ego-boosting period for me...and it lasted..
till i lost most of my self-control after a period of fun, fun, fun in the UK visiting friends who would feed me with more than enough food to feed a family of five...ok, i'm exaggerating, *who asked you to makan so banyak? blame it on other people pulak*
and so, ladies and gents, its back to looking longingly at food i can't have and actually contemplating lacing up those running shoes for a brisk jog around the park in front of the house *how convenient, park depan rumah, but buat dunno aje*...
wish me luck :)

It was a teary eyed goodbye..
The night seems to fade,
But the moonlight lingers on,
There are wonders for everyone
The stars shine so bright,
But they're fading after dawn,
There is magic in Kingston Town..
- UB40's "Kingston Town" -
The Golden Girls finally went home on Wednesday, leaving me not only pondering on my enormous task of completing my dissertation, but also leaving with extra bagages! in short, we spent almost an hour sorting out their luggages at Heathrow as they were too heavy, and finally, they managed to cart everything back home..oh yeah, they also, between them, shared a box to ship back home...nie sumer gara2 penangan carboot sale that we went to at MArksgate, 2 weeks ago..not to mention various things that they managed to acquire from just about everywhere...btw, the carboot there is enormous! we managed to amassed quite a number of stuff, siap kena balik dengan kotak lagi hehehe...
we went to Ireland for a 3-day trip last week, where we stayed at a Malaysian Embassy officer's place in Dublin...Dina, Uncle MAhzan, and their 2 adorable kids, Ameera and Hakim were wonderful people, who provided us with the most comfortable accomodations ie. beds yang sangat empuk, scrumptious meals ie nasi lemak when my mom was about craving them, and were the best guides, although we were mostly on our own...we rented a car, at a very cheap rate for 3 days, and went roaming around the Irish countryside on the second day..the first day was spent looking for Glendalough and the Powerscourt Gardens just outside Dublin, with the ickle Ameera as our tour guide..we managed to cover quite a bit of the western countryside..we reached Galway, Salthill, and the wonderous Cliffs of Moher...the best part was, the countryside was literally sprinkled with B&B, all in shapes of the cutest cottages, and sheeps and cows! hehehe...it was fun, although very, very tiring...the last day in Ireland was spent in Dublin, where i actually managed to meet with an ex-Unitenian, not intentionally...Nonz and Ferr, i met Yasmin!! i was just standing outside some shops, when i saw a very familiar face in the crowd..it was her and Ain Zara'taj...so, chatted for a bit....Dina was luvverly, as she's so bubbly and kept us amused with her chatters...we also met up with other Malaysian, Iskandar and Intan..and visited the new Malaysian embassy office in Ireland..
back in London, it was jalan, jalan, jalan all the way till their last day in London...sheesh, i was soo penat, that at one point, all i wanted to do was fall asleep on the floor kat Marks & Sparks Marble Arch..but, something saved me from doing just that..a lunch meeting on Saturday with The Idlan, The Lin and The Anuar..needless to say, i was more than refreshed after that :) bile lagi nak kluar ramai2 lagi? jom laa! ehhehe...
It was a great break, and it was indeed a teary-eyed goodbye for me...my mom was like, a few more months, a few more months as i salam-ed her before she departed..but knowing me, hehe, overactive tearducts, imagination and emotion :p
after they left, i checked my results and alhamdulillah, it was fine :) so, celebrated with a 10-hour excursion :p nasib baik masih sales...and on Saturday, made it *finally* to Kelab Melayu, and today... met with Firman and friends from Leicester, and went over to Coura's for a small birthday party...and the best part was: unexpectedly meeting Tracy from Sri Aman at Leicester Square, after yonks! heheheh..i even managed to snap a pic with her! she looks really good, and is much sweeter now..unfortunately, ayat yang tak boleh dilupakan " after i broke up with Ayesha..." hehehhe....well, it's nice to see that she turns out a-ok :) finished her masters recently at Nottingham, and is accepting a job at Leeds..she's also with someone new right now, and yes, those rumours about her getting married is true, but she split up... she was amazed that THAT got around..haha! biaselaa..sensational stories :p
and to top off a nice tiring day, got an sms message from an ex-Amanian friend in Ireland, whom i thought would never regard me as much, saying its been a while and we should catch up :) sebelum nie, was a little bit segan to contact her, but its nice to know that she still remembers me :)
it has been good, it has been nice...cannot update banyak2 already, too much food in tummy, cannot think properly dah..besides, am gonna see what this KL Menjerit is all about...
daa....
* added in at 3.23 a.m.:
sometimes you go through life wondering, have your presence brought any impact at all on the people you surround yourself with? then you get all those messages asking when ur coming back, or can't wait for u to come back so that we can have dinner, or just plain i miss you...then you know that it has, even if its a smidgen...if anything, it prolly has served as a tiny ray of light to shine your bed as u lie down smiling like a silly fool all to yourself before dozing off...

THe Golden Girls are in Town!!
Love, love me do
You know I love you
I'll always be true
So please, love me do
Whoa, love me do
- The Beatles' " Love Me Do " -
as always, whenever i have loads to write, i find that its usually when i'm at my sleepiest, and the rest of the world are snoring away..
i have been away for quite some time..partly due to taking Kak Ha around last week, Kak Ha is a relative of Mami and Papa, whose whole family we've gotten to know over last week, nice people they are..and since it is KAk HA's first trip to London, we took her around..the best part was, she had her viewcam along, so we clowned around central London, taking shots of "..melaporkan dari Tower Bridge untuk TV3/NTV7.." ...hehehhe...
and this week i've been busy.. due to the...arrivals of the Golden Girls!!! woohoo!!! as it is, i now have 3 gorgeous ladies staying with me..namely, my mom, whom i fondly recall to be calling her Mama :p , my lovely orthodontist Dr Aiami aka Auntie Aimi, and my other lovely aunt, whom i call Mak Ngah..they will be known as the Golden GIrls alias GG after this..when they arrived at HEathrow, i was like calling out " mak datin, mak datin.." to get their attention, hehehe....
the past 5 days have been a whirlwind of activities..on Monday, we checked out the HArrods sale, but not before touring London..we did the whole touristy thing, except to Tower Bridge and the docks, and the roses at Regents Park..later we went to Edgeware for a kebab lunch and some grocery shopping..siann diorang, tak pernah agaknye naik bas lama2 and jalan kaki all over...they were so "steady" that i've forgotten the fact that they are much older, hence gets tired faster...result: snoozed all the way home on the bus..that evening, we met up with Aunty Jameah at her place, and they, the GG, made plans for a roadtrip up north..well, ultimate destinationnyer was Stoke-On-Trent, for all the pinggan mangkuks and stuff...so we took down numbers for car hires and proceeded to rent a car till Friday..
on TUesday, we went to a nearby rental service, booked a 7-seater (Toyota Verso)..which, for the record, i don't recommend, sebab the 2 seats at the belakang is soo super tiny, and the passengers there will S.U.F.F.E.R...trust me, that was my spot, and man, was my butt aching throughout the 3 days we travelled in the car..but for my mom's sake kan, takpelaa..anyhoo, after getting everything sorted and booked, we hit Oxford Street...then dinner at Khan's, but not before getting lost looking for the new MSD...btw, thanks Lin for the directions! :)
bile dah jumpe and we buzzed the door, this youngish looking Malay guy stepped out.. my mom and auntie aimi started to make remarks about how they couldn' t find the place laa, how come got no flag flying laa, penat saya nie haa jalan all over...to that man..kesian budak tu kena buli, he was like, saya ikut mak saya holiday je nie puan..kah kah kah...then they started interviewing him!! duduk kat mana, belajar mana, universiti mana...by then AInor had already walked away, while i was trying not to look too embarassed...haha!
we started off at about 11 a.m Wednesday morning, driving up north..we didn't exactly have a specific destination, it was either Birmingham or Nottingham...then someone suggested Stratford..so, off we went..Aunty Aimi and the gang, ehhehe...lovely countryside..we went to visit Shakespeare's birthplace, Mary Arden's (his mother) cottage, and Anne HAthaway's (his wife) house..had tea, took pictures on someones lawn (because these GG thought the house was pretty, sampai the lady of the house came out to see what the fuss was all about) and also pictures berlatarbelakangkan lavender fields which were soo purple..then we went straight to Stoke as we didn't want to land anywhere else for the night..pusing-pusing the town looking for a decent B&B, and finally this pub owner got us a lovely place called the Flowerpot Hotel...it was nice, clean and relatively big but reasonably priced..had dinner of various forms of "mee instan"..
Thursday was GG's golden day out..after breakfast at the hotel, we started off to the shops..all in all, i think we visited only about 6 shops, but they got all the crokeries they wanted, lug them around, made impromptu stops whenever and wherever, and basically shopped to their heart's content...the backseat of the car was gradually filled with bags, sampai we had to pangku some..had lunch at Aynsley, then decided to move on to Nottingham...unfortunately, couldn't find a decent place to stay in Notts and the others were fully booked (maybe sebab Robin Hood Festival), so, dengan penat-penat tu, decided to drive back all the way to London..we arrove *new word, take note, look it up :p* home near midnight, unload our stuff at home, and drove off to Aunty JAmeah's place for a GG sleepover...
but they had fun..dalam sesat-sesat tu, and to put up with each other in tiny spaces, going everywhere...i think they enjoyed it..they even made comments such as " kita nie, berjalan, macam takde family ye.." hehehhe...but they deserved this kind of break..something just for them, and not including the rest of the family..well, hehe, me excluded laa..
today was a loverly day, cuz for the first time in my life *i think* i went strawberries picking!! oklaa, cam jakun lak, but it was soo nice! the thing was, kesian Aunty Aimi, cuz all she wanted was to go look for her decals in Stoke-on-Trent (for her home-made potteries) and go strawberries picking in the countryside..but hampa, cuz the shop in Stoke selling the decals was closed till next week (!!) and the strawberries farm near Notts had already closed about half and hour before we arrove..so, bile AUnty JAmeah suggested a place in Orpington just outside London, she jumped at the chance...and we went, going through Canary Wharf, underneath the River Thames, and viewing the MIllenium Dome at a closer angle..it rained when we arrived, but we waited in the car till the sun came out a bit, then went to get the baskets for picking..yours truly nie eksyen, tak nak pick strawberries..konon masam...i went in search for the kononnye more superior raspeberries, while i left them exclaiming over the strawberries..but i couldn't find them raspberries shrubs..so,i joined them..but when i saw the red, huge, juicy, shiny fruits..i couldn't resist myself..gah! padan muke..converted strawberry fan..haha...aunty aimi was like, see? now you understand..:p me mom, on the other hand, loaded her baskets with the hugest berries she could find..we have soo much strawberries in the fridge right now, macam nak jual kat pasar..unfortunately, it rained again while we were picking raspberries *tak sedap*, so, the GG and us had to run underneath and along the trees..
after sending Aunty JAmeah home, and sending back the car, me and Ainor accompanied Aunty AImi to meet her stewArd friend in KEnsington HIgh St, and went home to a Mama-cooked meal..*sigh*..something i've been missing for a long time..and an actual NST paper given to us by those stewards...cam jakun pulak tengok paper, agaknye diorang kesian kot, so they gave us the whole lot...i missed my cartoon strips :p
it has been fun so far..alhamdulillah..my biggest joy is not in the travelling all over, not in the joy of shopping *which i didn't do much*..it comes from the gentle breathing sound coming from my mother sleeping by my side...
goood night everyone..
